Fourth grade used the Engineering design process to test out helicopters. We conducted several trials to see if the small, medium or large helicopter flew best. Then we made helicopters out of cardstock and added weight while using a rubric as a class to decide what additions worked best.

After learning about radiology, students completed an interactive website about the X-ray machine, MRI, and CT Scan. Then they created an original skeleton of Q tips, wrote sentences about their skeleton and placed them into Seesaw. Fifth grade is practicing with a pumpkin catapult to get ready for their U of H field trip in December. We used the engineering and
Fourth grade kicked off our Design Unit learning about the Engineering Design Process. After learning about the process, students created the same airplane and then we conducted trials to test them out. Students then went back and made changes to see if their airplane would fly farther.
Digging for artifacts was an exciting time in GT this week. First, second, and third graders loved recording the location, description, and measurement of each item. I love to read and I want to promote that at Austin Elementary! Starting next week, my GT students can record videos on his/her favorite books. The only requirement is that he/she must have read the book! We will post the videos to a private channel and print out the cover with a QR code for all students to enjoy.
If you are up at Austin, please stop by (it is outside my room) and look at all of the awesome videos! Mrs. Wagner is responsible for putting this up and filling it with videos! I think that she has done an awesome job and I hope that my GT students will add exciting books! This week, our ology study led us to Archaeology. Archaeology is the study of past lives. We watched videos of several archaeologists in action and took notes. We learned all about using a grid while excavating. We practiced being an archaeologist during our cookie excavation. Next week we will draw some conclusions about our dig at the start of class. Fifth graders used their multiple intelligence quiz to create a perfect school based upon the results. See the pictures of our future multiple intelligences and their influence on the design of a school. I am impressed with some of the well thought out areas. Next week we start something fun and exciting!
