Happy Thanksgiving from my family to yours! I am so glad that it was not a short week and I got to see all of my students. In 1st-3rd we summarized our trip to Canada with our visit to the Northern Lights. In 4th grade, we continued with research for our Masterpiece unit. Some students even finished their product. In 5th grade, students continued to program the robot. Some groups even had a challenge to do! I challenged my students to guess how many books that I will read over Thanksgiving (I showed a picture of my piles of books on my desk at home). Stay tuned to see which student guessed right!

The TAGT Advocacy Committee is pleased to announce the second G/T Awareness Day on November 13, 2017!
This day was created to increase awareness and encourage support of gifted education in Texas. See link below. http://www.txgifted.org/content.asp?contentid=241 During our visit to Canada this week, we learned about the importance of the totem pole to the Inuit people. Each student created a totem pole that best represents them. Each student created a one of a kind beauty! We also made an origami canoe using written directions. (It was difficult, but we did it!) Students that missed totem poles due to early release will have a chance to make them up! Fourth grade is busy working on justifying why vaccines are a science Masterpiece. Students are researching how vaccines are made and plan to use Toontastic or Chatterpix Kids to showcase their learning. Fifth grade is really getting into programming robots. We have various levels from beginner to intermediate in the room. Lots of learning going on here-even ME! As usual- I would not have these photos without my wonderful photographers out there helping me! You do a fantastic job!
So happy that the Astros won the World Series! On our visit to Canada in 1st-3rd, we learned that Canada's province of Quebec is the largest producer of maple syrup. We watched a video about how maple syrup was made in the past. After that we became scientists to measure the viscosity of liquids. Viscosity is a measure of a fluid's resistance to flow. Students had to make a prediction to which liquid would have the highest viscosity from water, maple syrup, honey and syrup. We then used a stopwatch (an iphone) and dropped a marble in each liquid for three trials. We recorded our findings and drew conclusions. (To my friends that missed due to a field trip or shortened due to the behavior reward- we will pick this up towards the end of the year) In our Masterpiece Unit with 4th grade we are investigating vaccines. We learned all about smallpox and Edward Jenner, the father of immunology. Now we are looking at why vaccines should be included in our Masterpiece TPSP. In 5th grade students are building and programming the EV3 robot. Students are at all different places and having a bunch of fun exploring the different ways to make the Lego robot work. iFest Live
