We learned all about gondolas in Italy that were once used for transportation but now more for tourists. We learned about the life of a gondolier and created our own gondola. So much fun!

Our primary GT students visited Italy in our Countries and Cultures Unit. We learned all about the Leaning Tower of Pisa and how it should survive 300 years. Then we created our version of it. Fun times! Students finished up their masks for Papua New Guinea. I put them up at school and finally let the kids take them home.
December has been a crazy month. I attended GiftED19 (Texas Association of the Gifted and Talented conference) in San Antonio and attended many great sessions that I plan to implement in January. I hope that you enjoy the present that your child worked so hard on. Have a great holiday from my family to yours!
We are busy working in GT! First and Second graders are visiting Papua, New Guinea and making a mask. Third graders practiced being scientists and were able to show how to organize the Periodic Table of Elements. We are in the process of learning about each group of elements. Fourth grade finished up their nonverbal deception case for the Forensics unit. Each group presented their findings and why they picked their suspect. We also started taking notes on physical evidence. Fifth grade is busy trying to make their robot move forwards and backwards and turn on a 90 degree angle. This has been very interesting watching how each group problem solves. We traveled to the island of Papua New Guinea with 1st and 2nd graders. We learned all about the volcanoes and unusual animals of the island. Third grade is working on Atoms and how the model has changed over time. We practiced our learning with a Quizizz. So much fun! For our forensic unit in 4th grade, we took some important notes and then learned how to play memory match. It is an important game to test your observation skills. Fifth grade is working on building and programming our robot. Some groups are very advanced! We have also watched short clips of robots in action for poaching, construction or outer space. in 1st and 2nd grade we completed our travels to France with learning about the Louvre and completing our Mona Lisa portrait. In 3rd grade, we learned about how the model of the atom has changed over time. We used play doh to make the atom model to help us in our study this year of Biochemistry. Fourth grade received our CSI lab coats and have been working on our forgery case. Each group had to look at the evidence, use the graphology clues and narrow down to one suspect. They presented evidence to the class. So much fun. Fifth grade is continuing on with robotics. Groups are in various stages of building and programming. Most groups are using the ipad to build a basic program. Lots of great things going on in GT this week. Parents of first and second grade GT students, thank you for completing the optional assignment. We really enjoyed hearing about where your relatives are from. We also took a trip to Paris, France in our Countries and Cultures Unit. We tasted a croissant and dijon mustard (it was not mandatory) So much fun! Third grade is busy making the mad scientists and learning about our Biochemistry unit. We watched Molecules to the Max to set our learning up for the year. Fourth Grade is busy learning all of the ins and outs for our Forensic Unit this year. We can't wait to crack our first case! Fifth grade is busy learning all about robots and making sure that our EV3 kits have the parts included. Some groups have started building. What a great week in GT at Adolphus.
